NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State softball team hosted the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State on Friday in a doubleheader match-up. The Spartans dropped game one, 5-1, and game two, 4-1.
In game one, the Spartans jumped ahead in the bottom of the third after a fielding error scored Victoria Taylor from third. Taylor came in to pinch run for Maya Johnson after she reached on a walk in her at-bat.
The Blue Devils would go on to score five unanswered runs to secure the win over the Spartans, 5-1.
In game two, the Spartans saw themselves down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning.
A run scored by Aniyah Michalak after she reached on a walk and advanced on a ground out, passed ball, and throwing error put the Spartans only down 4-1. The Spartans hit into a double-play in the next at-bat to close out the inning.
The Spartans had a chance in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, but were unable to convert any runs.
Maya Johnson doubled to left center field for the first base hit of the inning. Michalak walked and stole second to put two runners on with one out. Victoria Ruiz walked to load the bases for the bases, but a fielder's choice and a fly out to center field was enough to stop the Spartans in their tracks.
Coming up - The Spartans will play Holy Cross tomorrow at the NSU Softball field at 12:30 p.m.
