William & Mary Overpowers Spartans in Midweek Matchup

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team found some offensive success on Wednesday afternoon against a talented William & Mary squad but couldn't slow down the Tribe's lineup in a 17-6 loss at Marty L. Miller Field.

The Spartans (7-13) struck first, getting on the board in the opening frame thanks to ample baserunning by freshman Kydese Queen. William & Mary (15-6) responded powerfully, launching a grand slam home run into right field as part of a five-run second inning.

The Tribe came away empty handed in the third inning but turned things up a notch in the fourth. A solo home run began the order, before a triple to left field concluded a seven-run inning for the visitors.

The Tribe added three more runs on three hits in the fifth inning, extending the advantage to 15-2, but the Spartans kept fighting to the last pitch.  Raphael Rodriguez, Jamal Ritter, and Robert Beatty all put together singels during the bottom half of the inning, a four-run swing from the home team.

William & Mary added one more in the seventh, before the 10-run rule came into effect to conclude the afternoon. The result marked the Tribe's fifth consecutive win.
