NORFOLK - Freshman outfielder Aniyah Michalak etched her first career home run in the Morgan State doubleheader series on Saturday at the NSU Softball Field.
The Spartans (4-35, 3-11 MEAC) lost to the Bears (23-14, 12-2 MEAC) in both games, 8-0 in game one and 10-6 in game two, in the weekend Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up.
Michalak's home run came in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two. She sent the ball over the left center fence for a two-run score in the back-and-forth game that saw four lead changes and two ties.
The Spartans responded at the bottom of the third and fourth innings for a combined three runs to take a 5-4 lead over the Bears. In that span, the Spartans collected three runs on four hits.
The Bears scored six runs through the fifth and seventh innings to win the game over the Spartans who vaulted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
Five extra-base hits were totaled by the Spartans: four doubles and one home run. Loren Hudson had two of the four doubles.
Coming up - Norfolk State will host the final home game of the season tomorrow for senior day against Morgan State. Senior day recognitions are set to start at 11:40 with game time slated for 12 p.m.
