BALTIMORE, Md. - The Norfolk State softball team played Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent Coppin State for the final time this season on Sunday at the Coppin State Softball Complex.
The Spartans (4-39, 3-15 MEAC) took on the third seeded Eagles (19-16, 14-4 MEAC) losing 9-0 in five innings.
Rylie Gilbreath, who is ranked fourth in the MEAC in hits, recorded her 45th hit of the season leading off the first inning. Gilbreath along with Aniyah Michalak, Emree Sky Obispo, and Brierra Tyler each recorded hits for the Spartans.
Brierra Tyler extends her hitting streak after obtaining a hit in back-to-back games. Tyler also pitched 1.1 innings not allowing a single run.
Michalak collected her third hit of the series in the first inning on a bunt to the third baseman that she outran.
The Spartans made contact with most of the pitches thrown at them allowing only two total strikeouts in all of their at-bats.
The Eagles utilized a five-run third inning to jump start their offensive that was held stagnant through the first two innings as the Spartans allowed no runs and only one hit to start the game.
Coming up - The Spartans head to Washington, D.C. to play MEAC foe Howard in a series from April 27-28. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
