BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Norfolk State baseball team dropped a road contest at Sacred Heart, 11-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Sacred Heart (22-19, 17-6 NEC) took the first lead of the day in the first inning, tallying two runs on four hits. The Spartans (11-31, 6-17) kept the damage minimal, getting out of a bases load jam with one out to close the inning.

An RBI double and single on successive at bats pushed the gap to 4-0. Jamal Ritter stole second in the bottom half of the third, eventually getting home for Norfolk State's first score of the day.

The Pioneers added three runs in the fourth frame, before an additional score in the sixth gave them an 8-1 advantage.

Ritter continued his strong day with a triple in the seventh inning, scoring Swaroop Pujari from first. Justin Journette reached on a throwing error moments later, giving Norfolk State its third run on the scoreboard.

Sacred Heart added three runs in the final stretch, holding off the Spartan lineup for the Pioneers' third consecutive win.

UP NEXT

The teams will meet on Sunday for the series finale, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
