Norfolk State Opens up MEAC Play at Home against UMES Saturday, at Delaware State Monday

NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's basketball team opens the 2025 portion of its schedule at 2 p.m. against Maryland Eastern Shore at Echols Hall.
 
The matchup with UMES marks the opening game of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this season. This marks the 51st time that the two schools have met. Norfolk State swept both meetings last season by scores of 80-59 and 52-40.
 
Graduate guard Diamond Johnson led Norfolk State in both contests, scoring 50 points across the two matchups against the Hawks.
 
Norfolk State looks to continue its momentum, coming off a 63-57 upset victory at Auburn on Sunday, Dec. 29.
 
Johnson led the Spartans with 17 points while adding 11 rebounds, four steals, and three assists to her totals. Sophomore guard Da'Brya Clark also scored in double figures for NSU with 15 points.
 
Monday's contest with Delaware State marks the 55th matchup between NSU and DSU. The Spartans won both games last year with the first on Feb. 3 (79-52) and the second on Mar. 2 (65-51).
 
Senior forward Kierra Wheeler led NSU in the first meeting with 17 points, while Johnson led the team in the second contest against the Hornets with 20 points.
 
Both games will air live on ESPN+. Radio coverage will be available on WNSB 91.1 FM, featuring Ross Gordon on the call.
