BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team lost the first leg of a two-game series against Virginia Tech on Tuesday afternoon, 13-0, in seven innings.

The Spartans (0-9) totaled six hits on the day, allowing nine for the Hokies. Virginia Tech (9-3) made its mark at the plate with home runs (2) and walks (11), stifling the Sparan hitters across four pitchers.

Norfolk State opened the game poised, getting multiple players on base in the first inning. Starting pitcher
Mac Yarbrough got off to a strong start on the mound, producing a 1-2-3 first inning with a groundout, popout, and flyout.

The Hokies got three players on base in the second inning before getting their first hit, which came in the form of an RBI-single to put VT ahead 3-0 after a wild pitch earlier in the at bat.

Virginia Tech took control in the third inning, logging five runs on two hits as well as a passed ball and wild pitch.

Four runs in the fifth inning gave the Hokies a 13-10 advantage, but the Spartans put together another scoring threat in the sixth.
Collin Curry,
Brayden Daulton, and
Kydese Queen got on board to set up a bases loaded situation, but the Hokies produced a ground out to get through the inning unscathed.

Luke Jackman closed out the victory for the home team, striking out three Spartan batters in the seventh inning.
