FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team took a narrow loss to Longwood on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-3 at New Lancer Tennis Courts.
 
Longwood won the opening doubles point, ultimately making the difference in the match. The Lancers earned a 6-1 victory on Court 1 before winning 6-3 on Court 2.
 
Yuliya Yurkova tied the match 1-1 with a dominant victory at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Feline van Eijkelenberg 6-0, 6-2. The Spartans took the lead after that as 
Caroline Nicholls defeated Oriana Izarra 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 slot.
 
The back-and-forth battle continued from there, as Longwood tied the match 2-2. Karina Rizvanova came from behind to beat 
Sofiya Tsitavets 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position, before Alexandra Magia put the Lancers ahead with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 triumph over 
Irina Iurea.
 
Longwood clinched the victory with a win by retirement on Court 4. 
Sabina Iurea gave the Spartans a positive ending note, pulling out a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) win over Kashmira Manohar on Court 6.
