Spartans Avenge Early-Season Loss with Dominant Victory vs. Hampton

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team got its revenge against Hampton on Tuesday afternoon, crushing the Pirates 6-1 at NSU Tennis Complex.

The Spartans (11-9) earned their seventh consecutive victory with the result, flipping the script after falling 4-3 to the Pirates earlier in the season.

Norfolk State lost 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles position but won the other two matches to earn the early advantage unlike the previous meeting with Hampton. Jakub Solarski and Deniz Okyay cruised past Benedict Badza and Benjamin Mwanza 6-2 on Court 3, before Frederick McRae and Igor Kubalka beat Kevin Jorquera and Aryan Arora 6-4 at the No. 2 slot to clinch the opening point.

Okyay defeated Jorquera 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position to put the Spartans ahead 2-0. Vladisav Gorbatenko made quick work of his matchup, beating Yanozie Amadike 6-3, 6-2 at position two.

Solarski clinched the victory for the Spartans with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Donte Armbrister at the top spot in the lineup. McRae continued his dominant junior campaign, taking down Badza 6-1, 6-1 on Court 4.

Boris Lunin wasted no time defeating Mwanza 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 position, before Arora fended off a sweep with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Igor Kubalka on position five.

The Spartans return to action with a road matchup at Navy on Saturday, slated for a 12 p.m. start.
