CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina hosted Norfolk State on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Softball Field, defeating the Spartans 12-1 in five innings.
In the first ever meeting between the two programs, North Carolina scored three runs in the first to take control of the matchup early.
Ennovi Sandoval put the Spartans on the board in the first inning with an RBI single.
The Spartans finished with three hits – one each from
Qween Edmonds,
Ennovi Sandoval, and
Kira Turner. Edmonds extended her hit streak to four games, totaling nine over that stretch.
Norfolk State, playing its final road series of the season, dropped to 21-18 with the loss. The Spartans return to Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) play this weekend for a three-game series against Howard.
The Spartans and the Bison will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a Sunday single game at 12 p.m.
In the regular season finale, Norfolk State will celebrate its six seniors on Senior Day. Senior Day announcements begin at 11:40, with the game set to begin at 12 p.m.
Norfolk State currently sits in second place in the MEAC standings, below first-place Howard. With a Bison series sweep, the Spartans can earn a share of the regular season conference title.
