The following is a statement from NSU Vice President and Athletic Director Dr. Melody Webb on the recent House v. NCAA Settlement
"The House v. NCAA settlement marks a historic moment in the constantly evolving landscape of college athletics. This landmark settlement will transform how college athletic departments operate, moving in a positive direction to empower student-athletes while continuing to provide a world-class education.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting and uplifting our student-athletes, supplying them with the platform, teaching, and resources to reach unprecedented levels of success on the playing field and in the classroom.
Norfolk State has already begun the process of compensating our student-athletes by opting into the NCAA's revenue-sharing plan. Under the University's new model, a portion of revenue from all athletic events, including ticket sales, will go directly to Spartan student-athletes. We believe this initiative is just the beginning of a series of creative strategies to involve and reward the student-athletes who dedicate themselves to breaking barriers on and off the field.
We encourage our fans to join us in embracing the new era of college athletics. I am confident that Norfolk State will maintain the Gold Standard mindset, continuing to strive for championship success."
