NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State junior pitcher
Kailey Bryant was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Bryant helped the Spartans to a 3-1 opening-weekend record, going 2-0 in the circle. She tossed 13.1 innings, striking out seven of the 56 batters she faced while posting a 2.10 ERA and holding opponents to a .286 batting average.
In the season opener against Rider, Bryant threw a complete game with four strikeouts to secure a 5-4 victory. She allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with one walk.
Bryant also appeared in the matchup against Central Connecticut State, entering in the first inning and closing out the contest with 6.1 innings pitched. She struck out three while allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits.
Norfolk State returns to action this weekend hosting the Battle at the Bay, a split-field tournament co-hosted with Hampton.
