Malecki, Simunovic Earn Wins in 5-2 Loss at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon as part of its weekend road swing.

Play began with doubles competition, where the Golden Eagles secured the opening point by claiming the first two matches. Kale Mize and Jay Temming defeated Marcin Andrzejczak and Szymon Janzen 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Saheb Sodhi and Eric Perkowski earned a 6-2 win over Marcin Dójczynski and Szymon Malecki at the No. 2 position. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Boris Lunin and Dominik Simunovic was left unfinished with the Spartans leading 5-2.

Southern Miss extended its lead during singles play, taking victories in four of the six matches.

At No. 1 singles, Kale Mize defeated Andrzejczak 6-4, 6-1. Sodhi followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dójczynski at the No. 3 position, while Olle Noltorp topped Janzen 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. Ritabrata Sarkar closed out the match for the Golden Eagles with a narrow 6-4, 6-4, 11-9 win over Kasper Kulpa at No. 6.

Norfolk State picked up its two points in the lower half of the lineup. Szymon Malecki earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jose Murariu at No. 2 singles, and Simunovic secured a hard-fought three-set win at No. 5, defeating Matei Varbanciu 7-5, 2-6, 10-5.
