LAFAYETTE, La. — The Norfolk State women's tennis team fell 4-0 to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday afternoon at Cajun Courts in nonconference action.
Louisiana claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The Ragin' Cajuns opened with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, where Angelique Berrat and Nina Krecklenberg defeated
Ines Sabadie and
Yana Klimchuk. Norfolk State responded at No. 1 doubles, as
Regina Urbiola and
Yuliya Yurkova earned a 6-4 win over Safia Zenbi and Martina Della Gora. The doubles point was decided at No. 2, where Ana Martinez Vaquero and Marilou Bressan edged
Angelina Maniawska and
Elena Martinez Prado 6-4, giving Louisiana a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Ragin' Cajuns carried that momentum into singles competition, earning straight-set victories on three courts to clinch the match. At No. 3 singles, Safia Zenbi defeated
Angelina Maniawska 6-0, 6-1, while Martina Della Gora followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over
Elena Martinez Prado at No. 4 singles. Louisiana sealed the match at No. 1 singles, where Angelique Berrat topped
Yuliya Yurkova 6-2, 6-0 to secure the 4-0 team victory.
Three additional singles matches were left unfinished once Louisiana clinched the fourth point.
Regina Urbiola was leading early in her match at No. 2 singles, while
Yana Klimchuk competed at No. 5 singles and
Sabina Iurea battled at No. 6 singles when play was halted.
