GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Norfolk State women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out Shaw 7–0 in a road matchup.
Norfolk State secured the early advantage by sweeping the doubles matches to claim the opening point.
Yuliya Yurkova and
Yana Klimchuk earned a 6–3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Regina Urbiola and
Elena Martinez Prado followed with a commanding 6–0 win at No. 2.
Kayla Kennedy and
Angelina Maniawska were awarded the No. 3 doubles match by default, giving the Spartans a 1–0 lead heading into singles play.
The Spartans carried that momentum into singles competition, capturing all six matches to complete the sweep.
Yuliya Yurkova controlled the top spot with a 6–1, 6–1 victory at No. 1 singles, while
Regina Urbiola added another point with a 6–2, 6–1 win at No. 2.
At No. 3 singles,
Elena Martinez Prado battled through a tightly contested match, edging her opponent in a third-set tiebreak to secure the point.
Yana Klimchuk followed with a 6–0, 6–2 victory at No. 4 singles, while the Spartans continued their strong play throughout the lineup to finish off the 7–0 result.
With the win, Norfolk State completed a perfect day against Shaw, sweeping both doubles and singles competition to secure the convincing road victory.
The Spartans return to action against North Carolina A&T State at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11.
