Spartans Split Midweek Matches, Sweep Virginia State

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State men's tennis team split a pair of midweek matches at the NSU Tennis Complex, falling 6-1 to Longwood before bouncing back with a 4-0 sweep over Virginia State.

LONGWOOD 6, NORFOLK STATE 1
Norfolk State dropped a competitive 6-1 decision to Longwood on Tuesday, with the Lancers claiming the doubles point and five singles flights.

Longwood secured the early advantage by winning two of three doubles matches, taking victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the opening point.

In singles play, Longwood controlled the top of the lineup, earning straight-set wins across the top courts to clinch the match.

The Spartans' lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Kasper Kulpa battled back for a three-set victory. After falling in a first-set tiebreak, Kulpa responded with a second-set tiebreak win before closing out the match in a 10-6 super tiebreak to secure Norfolk State's point.

NORFOLK STATE 4, VIRGINIA STATE 0
Norfolk State responded in dominant fashion on Wednesday, sweeping Virginia State 4-0.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead by securing the doubles point with convincing performances on the top two courts. Marcin Andrzejczak and Marcin Dójczynski earned a 6-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles, while Przemek Nikolajuk and Szymon Malecki followed with another dominant 6-0 victory at No. 2 to clinch the point.

In singles play, Norfolk State wasted no time putting the match away with straight-set wins across the lineup.

With the Spartans clinching the match after three singles decisions, the remaining courts went unfinished as Norfolk State secured the shutout victory.

Norfolk State hits the road for a three-match stretch, beginning with a matchup at Temple on March 19. The Spartans will then face Wagner on March 20 before closing the trip at Rider on March 22.
