NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to New Orleans on Monday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Spartans opened the match strong during doubles play, winning two of the completed matches to claim the doubles point. The duo of Marcin Dójczynski and
Marcin Andrzejczak earned a 6-4 victory over Jacob Rouleau-Mailly and Jerall Yasin at the No. 1 position. At No. 3 doubles,
Dominik Simunovic and
Kasper Kulpa delivered a dominant 6-0 win against Carlos Melgosa and Gonzalo Cotter. The No. 2 doubles match featuring
Boris Lunin and
Szymon Janzen was left unfinished with the score tied 5-5.
New Orleans responded in singles play, capturing five of the six matches to secure the overall victory.
At No. 1 singles, Jacob Rouleau-Mailly defeated Andrzejczak 6-2, 6-1. Beltran Fernandez followed with a three-set win over
Szymon Malecki, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, while Carlos Melgosa claimed a 6-4, 7-5 victory against
Szymon Janzen at the No. 3 position.
Norfolk State picked up its lone singles point at No. 4 as
Dominik Simunovic battled through a tight three-set match to defeat Gonzalo Cotter 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).
At No. 5 singles, Marcin Dójczynski forced a deciding set before falling to Evgenios Vasilakis 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5. Peter Kieslinger closed out the match for the Privateers with a 6-2, 6-3 win against
Kasper Kulpa at the No. 6 spot.
