NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State baseball team won its second straight game, defeating Delaware State 4-3 in walk-off fashion at Marty L. Miller Field on Saturday afternoon.
Norfolk State improved to 6-15 overall and 4-4 in NEC play, while Delaware State fell to 1-19 (1-7 NEC).
Yasseel Samboy (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Spartans.
Cameron Mazell led Norfolk State, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Kydese Queen finished 2-for-4, while
Jaydan Israel,
Thomas Ealey, and
Sean Stewart each recorded a hit.
Parker Hampton started on the mound for the Spartans and struck out six batters.
Donovan Whitfield followed with three innings of relief, striking out six. Samboy closed the game with one inning of work, adding one strikeout.
Delaware State took an early lead with a sacrifice fly to left field in the first inning. Mazell reached scoring position in the second, but the Hornets escaped the inning to maintain the advantage.
The Hornets would extend the lead at the top of the third inning following a sac fly out to center field to make 2-0 DSU after the top of the third inning. DSU would gain a 3-0 lead following an RBI single out to right field in the top of the fifth inning.
The Hornets extended their lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and added another run on an RBI single in the fifth to go up 3-0.
Ealey drew a one-out walk in the ninth and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Justin Journette followed with an intentional walk before Mazell delivered a game-tying RBI single to right-center field. Mazell then stole second, and
Josiah Harrison walked to load the bases.
Brendan Burke drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the winning run and secure the 4-3 victory.
The win marked Norfolk State's first back-to-back NEC series victories since joining the league in 2023, and its first consecutive series wins since the 2021 season.
