ERIE, Pa. --- The Norfolk State baseball team earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
 
Norfolk State improved to 9-16 overall (6-5 NEC), while Mercyhurst fell to 5-15 (5-6 NEC). Parker Hampton (2-1) led the Spartans with a complete-game shutout, striking out four batters over nine innings while allowing just five hits. He secured Norfolk State's first complete-game shutout since April 12, 2023.
 
Mason Mompoint paced the Spartans at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Josiah Harrison, Jaydan Israel, and Hunter Gillespie each added a hit.
 
Norfolk State took an early lead in the second inning. Harrison opened the frame with a double before Mompoint drove him in with a double to left field, giving the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Spartans extended their lead in the fourth. Harrison drew a walk and later scored on Brendan Burke's sacrifice fly to center field, making it 2-0. Norfolk State added another run in the fifth when Gillespie singled, and Israel followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
 
Mercyhurst threatened in the final two innings, but Norfolk State turned a pair of double plays to preserve the shutout.
 
Norfolk State will close the series Sunday at 12 p.m. at Mercyhurst Baseball Field.
