NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State baseball team dropped a 15-4 decision to New Haven in Northeast Conference action on Sunday morning at Marty L. Miller Field.

Norfolk State fell to 14-22 overall (11-14 NEC), while New Haven improved to 6-25 (5-13 NEC). Cole Gibson (1-4) earned the win, while
Walker Fuller (0-6) took the loss.

Hunter Gillespie led Norfolk State at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Brendan Burke added a triple and an RBI, while
Thomas Ealey recorded a hit and drove in a run.
Kydese Queen and
Cameron Mazell each contributed a hit in the effort.

Fuller started on the mound for the Spartans, tallying two strikeouts.
Myles Crocker followed in relief, while
Nyenati Snoh worked 2.2 innings, notching three strikeouts.
Sean Harris-Walter closed the game for the Spartans, securing the final out.

New Haven struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning behind a string of hits and a wild pitch. The Chargers added two more runs in the second to build a 6-0 advantage.

Norfolk State answered in the fourth inning. Burke tripled down the right-field line to score
Ryan Hoeft, and Gillespie followed with an RBI double. A fielding error allowed another run to cross, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

New Haven broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating six runs on five hits and taking advantage of defensive miscues to extend the lead to 12-3. The Chargers added one run in the sixth to push their advantage to 10 runs.Â

The Spartans pushed across one run in the seventh inning when Ealey singled to right field to score Gillespie, but New Haven would tack on two more runs in the eighth to secure the run-rule win.

Norfolk State will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 21, taking on Virginia State at Marty L. Miller Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
