NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State softball team secured the series victory over Morgan State with a 10-2 run-rule win in five innings on Sunday morning at TowneBank Field.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 20-18 overall and 10-8 in MEAC play, while Morgan State falls to 9-25 (6-12 MEAC).
GAME 3 – NORFOLK STATE 10, MORGAN STATE 2 (5 inn.)
Norfolk State set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Aniyah Michalak launched a three-run home run to left field, bringing home
Qween Edmonds and
Kailey Bryant to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.
The Spartans added two more runs in the third inning. Michalak came around to score on an error during
Bristyl Riddick's at-bat, and Riddick later scored on a double by
Amaya McPherson to extend the lead to 5-0.
Morgan State responded with two runs in the fourth, including a solo home run, to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Norfolk State answered with a decisive surge, plating five runs across the fourth and fifth innings to secure the run-rule victory. Michalak delivered again in the fourth with a two-run single, scoring Edmonds and Bryant for the second time in the game.
The Spartans closed out the win in the fifth inning.
Maya Johnson opened the frame with a solo home run, and
Qween Edmonds followed with a walk-off double to score
Kachelle Refour and
Julia Kearney, sealing the 10-2 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Michalak led the Spartans offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs, and two runs scored. Johnson and Bryant each added two hits in the win.
Maddy Morris was strong in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Norfolk State closes out the regular season next weekend on the road, traveling to face Howard in a three-game MEAC series in Washington, D.C. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25, followed by the series finale on Sunday, April 26.
