Biography

Longtime athletics pioneer at NSU ... hired as NSU's football coach and head of the physical education department in 1955 ... compiled a 27-20-1 record as the Spartans' football coach between 1955-60 ... went onto become the school's first baseball coach ... his foresight also led to the creation of varsity programs in track and field, wrestling, swimming, tennis and golf ... served as a basketball official in the CIAA, the Virginia Interscholastic Association and the Virginia High School League, and was also commissioner of the Hampton Roads Board of Officials ... was eventually named president of the International Association of Approved Baseball Officials ... had the University's primary athletics facility named in his honor when it opened in 1982 ... the arena still serves as the home of NSU volleyball and men's and women's basketball, the physical education department and the University's Army ROTC program ... was an inductee into the inaugural class of the NSU Athletics Foundation Sports Hall of Fame in 1983.
