Biography

2009 (Junior Season)
Barker finished with the best win-loss record on the team (6-3) and most innings pitched (84.2)…second among NSU’s returning pitchers with a 4.78 ERA and 47 strikeouts…made 16 appearances and 13 starts…finished second in the MEAC in games started, third in wins (tied) and innings pitched while ranking seventh in ERA…earned his only save of the season against Hofstra (2-21-09), when he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out four…pitched at least seven innings on six occasions…picked up his first win of the season against Marist, pitching 8.2 innings and striking out a career-high seven hitters…gave up just one earned run in 4.1 innings against College World Series participant Virginia…tossed his only complete game of the season against Bethune-Cookman, allowing just two runs in seven innings (4-12-09)…earned MEAC wins over Delaware State (4-19-09) and Florida A&M (5-2-09), allowing just two earned runs over seven innings pitched in each contest…ended the season with an impressive performance against Delaware State in the MEAC Tournament (5-15-09)…earned his sixth win of the season and tied his career-high seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings in the elimination game against DSU…had stints with the Covington ‘Jacks of the Valley League and the Petersburg Generals of the Coastal Plain League.
2008 (Sophomore Season)
Finished the season with a 3-1 record in 19 appearances, eight of them starts…posted a 3.32 ERA, second-best in the team and good for sixth-best in the MEAC…had the 10th-lowest opponents’ batting average (.267) in the conference…earned his first career win against Virginia State, fanning a career-high six batters and allowing three earned runs in six innings (4-3-08)…matched his career-high in strikeouts at Longwood (4-23-08) and Savannah State (4-27-08)…took the loss, but allowed just two runs in six innings at Longwood…pitched six scoreless innings and gave up just three hits four days later in a win against SSU…did not yield an earned run in three MEAC Tournament appearances spanning 11.2 innings…won his third game of the year in the tournament contest vs. UMES (5-16-08)…gave up seven hits and two unearned runs over a career-high nine innings of work for his first complete game…fanned five in that game…worked 1.2 innings against North Carolina A&T (5-17-08) and one scoreless inning in the tournament championship against Bethune-Cookman (5-18-08).

2007 (Freshman Season)
Made 17 appearances, 13 in relief and four starts…was 0-2 with a 4.83 ERA and two saves for the season…had a 2.84 ERA in 13 relief appearances…did not allow an earned run in his first five appearances, spanning nine and two-thirds relief innings…pitched three innings in relief against Villanova, only allowing two hits and striking out a season-high five batters in his NSU debut (2-16-07)…earned first save of the season against Sacred Heart, striking out three in three hitless innings (2-24-07)…tossed an inning and two-thirds scoreless to earn his second save of the season, vs. Binghamton (3-4-07)…got first career start at VMI, pitching three and one-third innings (3-6-07)…pitched a season-high five innings and tied his season high with five strikeouts in a start against Savannah State (5-14-07)…got a no-decision in that game despite allowing just one earned run in five innings.

At NSU
Enrolled in the fall of 2005, but sat out the 2006 season.

High School
Played parts of three seasons at Great Bridge…pitched for a Wildcats team that won three Southeastern District championships…worked primarily as a reliever...finished his junior season with a 0.70 ERA.

Jason Edward Barker was born on October 28, 1986…son of Eddie and Kim Barker…majoring in interdisciplinary studies.
