Ryan Chipka

Ryan Chipka is in his first year on the Norfolk State University athletics staff. Chipka serves a multi-faceted role at NSU. He oversees the strength and speed training and nutritional plan for the baseball program. He is also in charge of obtaining and creating all scouting information, monitoring the team's academic progress and other program enhancements such as the Spartan Speaker Series and the team’s leadership training.

Formerly, Chipka served as the volunteer assistant baseball coach at the University of Toledo last season and as head coach at Rochester College (Mich.) for two seasons prior to that. While at Toledo, Chipka coached the outfielders and base runners and also served as the Rockets’ first base coach.

At Rochester, Chipka led the Warriors to consecutive USCAA Small College World Series appearances.

Before taking over the Rochester baseball program, Chipka’s coaching experiences included stints as a middle and high school football and basketball coach and travel baseball coach in Michigan. He also previously worked as an associate scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Chipka is also is active on the summer baseball camp circuit. Last year, he assisted with camps at Mississippi State, Auburn, Virginia and Notre Dame.
Chipka joined the coaching ranks after a stellar career as a player at Rochester College, where he became the first-ever four-year captain in school history. A three-time academic All-American, Chipka helped lead the Rochester baseball program to back-to-back USCAA Small College World Series appearances, including a third-place finish in 2012. In his senior season, he notched first team All-American honors as the Warriors shortstop. Chipka also holds school records for hits, assists and consecutive starts.

Chipka earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a focus in social studies from Rochester in 2012. He and his wife, Audrey, reside in Chesapeake.
