Biography

2015 (Junior): Led the team with 21 pitching appearances, all in relief … Logged a 1-1 record, 5.01 ERA and three saves in 32.1 innings of work … Also finished two shutouts for the Spartans … Pitched two scoreless innings in his first outing of the year in a loss to N.C. Central … Struck out a season-high five batters over 2.2 scoreless innings against IPFW … Also pitched three scoreless innings, matching his longest appearance of the year, in a loss to Delaware State in March … Earned the save in a win at UMES in late March, allowing two earned runs in three innings … Got one out to pick up his second save against Coppin State in late March … Also went three innings against Coppin State the next day, allowing one unearned run with two punch-outs … Earned his only win of the year in mid-April against UMES, striking out three batters and allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings of work … Struck out four batters at CSU later in April without allowing a hit in 1.1 innings pitched … Earned his third save in the victory over VCU, striking out four batters in two innings … Also worked two perfect innings in a victory over Jackson State, fanning two hitters ... Pitched over the summer with the Martinsville Mustangs of the wood bat Coastal Plain League … Logged a 3-2 record with a 2.06 ERA and seven saves for Martinsville, striking out 32 in 35 innings pitched.

2014 (Sophomore): Tied for the team-lead with 21 appearances on the mound … started one game and came on in relief 20 times … Logged a 1-3 record in 32 innings pitched, striking out 27 hitters … Struck out three in two scoreless innings of work in the extra-inning loss to Xavier at the Furman First Pitch Invitational tournament … started the third game of the Savannah State series, taking the loss after pitching three innings and striking out three … Worked a scoreless inning of relief and fanned two in the first game of a doubleheader with UMES in late March … Pitched scoreless baseball in six of his last eight appearances of the season, including three against UMES … Picked up his only win of the year with 2.1 scoreless innings at UMES in mid-April, allowing just one hit while striking out two … Fanned three, matching a season high, in 1.1 scoreless innings at VCU … Pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning in the first matchup with Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Tournament … Earned a spot on the NSU AD’s Honor Roll for the fall semester.

2013 (Freshman): Went 2-4 with a 6.30 ERA as a freshman … Was fourth on the team and first among freshmen with 50 innings pitched … Struck out 32 in those 50 innings … Made 19 appearances, 11 in relief and eight as a starter … Struck out four batters over four innings in his first career outing, against Navy … Struck out three and allowed one unearned run in the first loss to Savannah State at the Tigers’ in-season tournament … Tossed two scoreless frames at N.C. Central … Struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief at UMES in the first series against the Hawks … Got the start and pitched a season-high 5.1 innings, allowing three runs in a loss at William & Mary … Gave up just one earned run in four innings of work in a loss at Delaware State in early April … Pitched well down the stretch of the season, allowing one or fewer earned runs in four of his last five outings … Got the start and pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits in the team’s win over Delaware State in late April … Got a no-decision in that game … Earned his first career win with five scoreless innings of work, striking out three, at Coppin State in early May … combined with Ray Morton on a shutout of CSU in that contest … Also got the win in the team’s victory over ODU, pitching 1.1 scoreless frames … Pitched for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League during the summer.

High School: A four-year letterwinner at Great Bridge … Jones posted a 3.44 ERA to go with 28 strikeouts in 24 innings as a senior … As a junior, he went 7-1 with three saves, including one in the state Group AAA championship game victory … Was high school teammates with NSU teammate Justin Lee, and played for current NSU assistant coach Wiley Lee his first three seasons.
