Biography

2017 (Senior): Made 14 appearances on the mound and started 11 times in his final season … Posted a 3-5 record and 5.26 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched … Pitched two complete games, earned one save and struck out 36 batters … Began the year with three straight no-decisions, allowing one run in four innings against Villanova and one run and just one hit in five innings against Niagara in his first two starts of the season … Pitched the first four innings and allowed three runs to get a third straight no-decision in the extra-innings loss to Tennessee … Allowed three runs in six innings in a loss at Towson and just two runs over six frames in another hard-luck defeat at Delaware State … Earned his first win of the year when he pitched a seven-inning complete game at Coppin State in early April … Gave up just three hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out three in that game … That began a streak of three straight wins for Mauricio … The following weekend, he struck out a season-high six and gave up just one run over six frames in a win at DSU … In his next start, Mauricio pitched another complete game in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore … Struck out five, walked none and surrendered just two earned runs in seven innings in the victory against the Hawks … Picked up the save in the MEAC Tournament elimination game win over North Carolina A&T, pitching the final three innings in a 12-11 win that sent NSU into the championship round … Member of the NSU AD Honor Roll for the spring semester.

2016 (Junior): All-MEAC first-team starting pitcher … Also voted to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state second team ... Posted a 6-2 record with a 2.29 ERA, the best mark in the MEAC and 50th-best in the nation … Tied for third in the MEAC and 38th nationally with three complete games, which included a pair of shutouts … Struck out 59 batters in 59 innings pitched … Started 10 games and appeared in five out of the bullpen … Ranked second in the MEAC in wins … Earned his first win in his career with 4.1 innings of scoreless pitching against NJIT … Struck out six in five innings of relief work in an extra-innings loss to Towson … Won five of his last six starts of the season, starting with a five-innings appearance at Delaware State on April 10 … Allowed just one run while striking out six in that win … Followed that up with a seven-inning, four-hit shutout the following week against MDES … Fanned a career-high nine batters in that game and earned MEAC Pitcher of the Week honors … Also won against Coppin State in late April with five innings of work, three hits and one run allowed … Pitched another four-hit shutout the following week against DSU, matching his career best with nine strikeouts … Again earned MEAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for his performance against DSU … Pitched his second straight complete game the following week at Coppin State, allowing nine hits and two earned runs over seven innings pitched … Pitched over the summer for the Powhatan Coyotes in the Piedmont League … Was 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched during his summer stint.
 
2015 (Sophomore): Made eight appearances, all out of the bullpen … Pitched nine innings and fanned seven batters … Pitched a season-high two innings of relief against IPFW … Did not allow a run in his four appearances of the year, spanning 3.2 innings … Struck out two batters in 1.1 hitless innings of relief at Virginia Tech … Also struck out two in his next appearance in a win over Coppin State in April during another scoreless frame … Threw a scoreless inning in a victory over CSU in early May … Retired the only batter he faced in a loss to Jackson State at the end of the regular season … Named to the NSU AD’s Honor Roll for the spring semester.
 
2014 (Freshman): Pitched in seven games out of the bullpen, logging 7.2 innings of work … Pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief against Buffalo … Struck out two hitters (of his four on the year) in 2.1 innings of the Canisius series opener … Worked one-third of an inning in the early-April series at Delaware State without allowing a run.
 
High School: Played four years of baseball and four of volleyball … Went 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA on the mound as a senior at Manchester … Was a second-team All-Dominion District selection as an outfielder after batting .328 with 21 RBI and nine stolen bases … A three-time all-district volleyball player … Earned first-team all-district volleyball honors as a junior and senior … Honorable mention all-region as a senior.
 
Personal: Jonathan Andrew Mauricio was born on June 11, 1995 … Son of Romuald and Carolina Mauricio … Younger brother, Alex, also played for the Spartans from 2015-17 before being selected in the 2017 MLB Draft … Jonathan majored in kinesiotherapy.
