Biography

2019 (Senior): One of the team’s top late-game relievers, Hanchey tied for fifth in the MEAC with four saves … Allowed just 31 hits in 22.1 innings pitched for a .176 opponents’ batting average … Finished the year 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA in 18 appearances … Picked up his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth against Savannah State … Earned a win the following day with two more shutout frames against SSU … Fanned two batters in a scoreless ninth in NSU’s win to start the first Delaware State series, kicking off a span of 10 straight scoreless appearances … Also got a win in his next appearance, against Coppin State … Tossed a season-high 2.1 hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts … Also pickup up a save in NSU’s final series with DSU and Coppin State … Pitched 1.2 scoreless frames and fanned two to get a win in the final series with Md. Eastern Shore … NSU Athletics Director’s Honor Roll member for the fall semester … Also was a member of the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.

2018 (Junior): Served as the team’s No. 3 weekend starter in his first year with the Spartans … Went 1-7 with a 5.93 ERA … Pitched 60.2 innings pitched, third on the team … Struck out 44 batters … Made 13 appearances, 11 of them starts, and tossed one complete game … Struck out a career-high seven batters in his first start at NSU against Villanova … Allowed just three hits and three runs over five innings in that game … Struck out six over 5.2 innings of work to Hofstra … Pitched a full seven innings in a tough loss to Delaware State, allowing four runs … Fanned six in his next start the following weekend at MDES, giving up one earned run in 5.1 innings pitched … Earned his first collegiate win in the final series at MDES … Pitched six innings and gave up just five hits and one run with two strikeouts.

2017 (Redshirt): Sat out the year per NCAA transfer rules.
 
Before NSU: Played two seasons with the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan … Played the outfield in addition to pitching … Had seven hits in 27 at-bats in his two seasons at VWU … Appeared in one game on the mound as a freshman, pitching two inning and allowing one run while striking out one.  

High School: Four-year letterwinner at Granby … Was a two-time first-team all-conference and all-region performer … Batted .419 as a senior while notching a 5-2 record and 1.43 ERA on the mound … As a junior, was also named to the All-Tidewater first team after going 5-1 with a 0.29 ERA and 56 strikeouts as a pitcher and batting .424 … Was an honor roll student each year in high school.

Personal: Trey Jordan Hanchey was born on July 6, 1995 … Son of Calvin and Tina Hanchey … Majoring in fine arts … Younger brothers Ty and Trent are also on the baseball team at NSU.
