Biography

2019 (Junior): An All-MEAC and VaSID all-state selection … Started 47 times in 48 games, including 41 starts at first base, three at DH and three at third base … Led the MEAC with 22 doubles, tied for the second-most in a season in school history … Also ranked fifth nationally in doubles per game …Baughan also ranked second in the MEAC in slugging percentage (.560) and total bases (98), tied for fourth in homers (five), eighth in triples (three) and 10th in batting (.314) … Had 15 multi-hit games during the year … Hit a two-run homer as part of a 2-for-4 day in a loss to William & Mary … That was one of five straight games in which Baughan had two RBIs, including all three in a series sweep of Savannah State … Capped that run with a two-run homer in the win at Longwood … Matched his career high with four hits in the middle game of the first series with Maryland Eastern Shore … Was 4-for-5 with a triple, homer and three RBIs in that game … Doubled twice in a loss at Coppin State in late March … Was 6-for-13 with four doubles in the three-game series at Delaware State … Batted 2-for-4 with an RBI double and solo homer in the matchup at Virginia … Scored five runs in a 5-for-11 home series vs. MDES … Went 4-for-4 with an intentional walk in the second game of the final Delaware State series … Had two two-hit games in the MEAC Tournament … Finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs in the win over Florida A&M … Batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in the win over North Carolina A&T … Following the season, Baughan played summer ball for the Bismarck Larks in the Northwoods League … Hit six homers in just 25 games and participated in the Northwoods League home run derby.

2018 (Sophomore): Voted to the VaSID All-State second team … Led the MEAC and set a new single-season NSU Division I-era record with nine home runs … Batted .259 for the year with 10 doubles, one triple, 30 RBI and 28 runs scored … Started all 48 games in which he played, seeing most of his time at DH … Also made three pitching appearances … Had 13 multi-hit games … Ranked 10th in the MEAC with 87 total bases … Began the year with a 2-for-4 day and scored a run against Villanova … Was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in the third game against Hofstra … Tallied five hits (5-for-11) with four RBI in the four-game series with Lehigh … Was 6-for-14 with six RBI in the series sweep at Delaware State … Drove in a career-high five runs, going 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, a double and a sacrifice fly in the third game at DSU … Named MEAC Co-Player of the Week following the DSU series … Was 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the first win over Coppin State … Also hit the tying RBI single in the bottom of the ninth and scored the winning run later in the same inning … Enjoyed another three-hit day in the finale of the first CSU series … Hit a two-run homer in the following DSU series … Hit a pair of two-run homers in the final MDES series and another in the first game at Jackson State … Hit a home run in all three of NSU’s games at the MEAC Tournament … Went 2-for-4 with a three-run blast and an RBI single, driving in four, in the tourney win over Bethune-Cookman … Added a solo homer in the tourney losses to N.C. A&T and Bethune-Cookman … Finished the tournament going 5-for-12 with six RBI and three runs scored.

2017 (Freshman): After not starting the year in the everyday lineup, came on strong late in his rookie season to lead the team in batting at .355 … Mostly served as designated hitter but also played some first base and also pitched in three games … In just 93 at-bats, Baughan hit eight doubles and two home runs for a .505 slugging percentage … Drove in 25 runs … Named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team … First career hit was a single against Delaware State in his second career start, which came in the teams’ first series of the year … In his fourth career start, Baughan went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a win to open the Maryland Eastern Shore series … That began a series a where Baughan was 7-for-9 (.778) with five RBI, which earned him MEAC Rookie of the Week … Was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI in the middle game of the series … Capped the NSU sweep of the Hawks with a 2-for-2 day where he scored twice … Hit his first career homer, a solo shot, in a win at DSU in April … Finished that game 2-for-4 … Posted a career-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with three RBI in the regular-season win at N.C. A&T … In back-to-back games, hit a two-run single in the season’s final win over Coppin State, and a two-run double in a loss at N.C. Central …Batted 2-for-5 with two RBI in the win at Longwood ... In the next game, was 2-for-7 with an RBI double at MDES as the Spartans clinched the regular-season MEAC North title … Roped a career-high three doubles, matching his career high with four hits in a perfect 4-for-4 outing in the MEAC Tournament opening win over N.C. A&T … Drove in two runs in that game … In the following day’s MEAC tourney elimination game, hit a solo homer and an RBI single while going 2-for-5, again against the Aggies … Pitched four innings, a season-high, in the first MEAC Tournament loss to Bethune-Cookman.
 
High School: Lettered three years in baseball and two in football … Hit .475 with seven home runs and 40 RBI as a senior, earning second-team All-Conference 3 honors … Also earned first-team all-conference and honorable mention All-Metro honors as a linebacker in football after recording 105 tackles as a senior … Selected to play in the VHSCA state all-state football game … Was honorable mention all-conference as a sophomore in baseball after hitting three home runs.
