Brandon Tynes is in his second season in his second stint on the NSU coaching staff.

Tynes returned to the NSU track and field program in 2019-20. He first served as the men’s track team manager as a student from 2003-2008, then was officially brought on staff upon his graduation, continuing to work with the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers from 2008-11.

In 2019-20, Tynes helped the Spartan men and women earn runner-up finishes at the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

During his first stint at NSU, Tynes had a hand in three straight sweeps of the MEAC indoor and outdoor championships for the Spartan men. 
 
From 2011-16, Tynes served as an assistant coach on the youth development team 5 Star. The team featured some of the most elite talent in the state of Virginia, producing numerous AAU and USATF All- American athletes. One of the major highlights of this program is setting the Young Woman’s age 17-18 division 4x4 Junior Olympics Record.
 
In 2013 Tynes relocated to Maryland, where he became the head coach of James Huber Blake High School. During his tenure, he developed several All- American Athletes in the 400-meter dash, long jump and mixed 4x4 relay. Tynes has coached athletes who have set 3A State records in the indoor and outdoor girls 4x200m relay, as well all-time Montgomery County Records in the Indoor 400m dash and 4x100m relay.  
 
Tynes is USATF Level 1 Certified in coaching and officiating. He received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from NSU in 2008. Tynes, a Hampton native, was a sprinter at Bethel High School.
