Biography
2007-08 (Sophomore Season)
Named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year…also won MEAC Outdoor Most Outstanding Performer honors after leading the Spartans to their third straight championship…earned NSU track team MVP honors…cleared a school indoor-record 7-2 ½ to win his third straight MEAC Indoor Championship, the seventh-best indoor high jump in the nation…finished 10th in that event at the NCAA Indoor Championship (6-10 ¼)…long-jumped 24-5 to place second behind teammate Corey Vinston at the indoor conference meet…leapt 49-3 ½ in taking third place in the triple jump…named MEAC Track Athlete of the Week after qualifying for the regionals in the long jump (25-4 ½) and triple jump (49-3 ½) at Wake Forest to open the outdoor season…won the conference outdoor long jump title with a personal-best jump of 26-1, the sixth-best leap in the nation in 2008…also won his third straight MEAC outdoor high jump title with a seasonal-best of 7-2 ¼, which tied the meet record…was second in the triple jump at the MEAC Outdoor Championship in a personal-best 50-9 ¼ …also helped the 400-meter relay team qualify for the regionals with a time of 40.21 in the MEAC outdoor prelims…placed fourth in the region in the long jump (24-10 ½) and sixth in the high jump (7-1), qualifying for the NCAA National Outdoor Championship in both events…did not advance out of the prelims at nationals in either event due to an injury.
2006-07 (Freshman Season)
MEAC high jump champion indoors (6-7) and outdoors (6-9 ¾)…finished third at the Penn State Invitational in the high jump, matching his indoor season-best jump of 6-9…also won the long jump at the conference outdoor meet (24-3 ¾) and was second in the triple jump (49-1 ¾), tallying a team-best 28 points…jumped a season-best 6-11 ¾ at the NSU Collegiate Invitational, qualifying for the NCAA East Regional in the high jump…placed 10th at the East Regional in the high jump (6-9)…took third place at the 2007 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump (50-1 ¾), high jump (6-10 ¾) and long jump (23-10 ¾).
High School
Lettered two years in track and field, and also played basketball and football…VHSL state indoor and outdoor champion in the high jump as a senior…won the Nike Indoor national championship and the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics national title (outdoors) in the high jump as a senior…was AAU national champion in the high jump (7-0) and long jump (24-0)…was all-state in all three jumping events as a junior.
