Biography

2018 (Senior Year): Played in all 50 games and made 49 starts … A total of 47 starts came at shortstop with two more at second base … Named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team for Division I softball by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) … Became just the third Academic All-American in the history of the school among all sports … Also voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 3 Team before earning national honors … Earned the department’s NSU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for the third straight year for having the highest GPA among all female student-athletes … Grabbed a spot on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team for the third straight year as well … Member of the MEAC All-Academic Team and the AD’s Honor Roll both semesters … Also garnered a spot on the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athlete team … Batted .269 on the season in 134 at bats … Scored 21 runs on 36 hits with four doubles, five home runs, 21 RBI, 13 walks, six sacrifice hits and two stolen bases … Set the NSU career record for sacrifice hits with 31 … Also ended her career 10th in doubles (23), 13th in games started (168), 14th in games played (169) and 15th in at bats (457) in NSU records … Ranked ninth in the MEAC in home runs and 21st in RBI … Had seven multi-hit games and six with at least two or more RBI after finishing second on the team in RBI … Batted .299 (20-of-67) with runners on base … In a win over South Carolina State on Feb. 23, hit 3-for-4 with two runs, four RBI and a home run … Also had a three-hit game in a game 1 win at Maryland Eastern Shore on March 31, batting 3-for-3 with a pair of solo homers, two runs and two RBI … Drove in three runs while hitting 2-for-2 with a run scored in a 10-7 win at Delaware State on March 25, breaking a tie game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh along the way … Scored three runs in a game 2 win at Howard on April 14 and also hit 1-for-2 with two RBI against the Bison the next day … Belted a home run and finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in a win at Savannah State on Feb. 17 … Had a pair of hits against Davis & Elkins on Feb. 25 in game 1 and batted 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI in game 2 … Batted .361 (13-for-36) during the first 11 games of the season.
 
2017 (Junior Year): Named to the preseason All-MEAC second team … Competed in all 36 games, starting every one at second base … Member of the AD’s Honor Roll both semesters as well as the MEAC All-Academic Team … For the second year in a row, garnered the department’s NSU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for having the highest GPA among all female student-athletes … Also earned a spot on the VaSID Academic All-State Team … Batted .208 on the season in 101 at bats … Had 14 runs, 21 hits, three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and seven walks … Also totaled 14 sacrifice hits, the second most in a season in school history and the most in the Division I era … Finished the year with 25 career sacrifice hits, just five away from tying the school record … Led the league in sacrifice hits and ranked second in the nation in sacrifice hits per game at 0.39 … Had her best game of the season in a game 2 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on April 2, hitting a three-run home run and batting 1-for-2 with two runs and four RBI … Hit a two-run double and finished 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI in a victory over Howard on April 14 … Batted 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and an RBI in a win over Fairleigh Dickinson on March 10 … The next day against the Knights, hit 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored … Hit 1-for-2 with a pair of runs in a triumph over Buffalo at home on Feb. 25 … The next day against the Bulls, walked once and hit a solo home run … Starting with that game, batted 11-for-30 (.367) during a nine-game span from Feb. 26-March 11.
 
2016 (Sophomore Year): Competed in all 43 games on the year, including 39 starts at second base … Also made four starts at catcher … One of three players to start all 43 games … Member of the AD’s Honor Roll and the MEAC All-Academic Team … Named to the VaSID Academic All-State Team and the Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete team … Earned the department’s Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award … Hit .246 on the year with a team-leading 33 runs … Had 30 hits, nine doubles, one home run, 12 RBI and 23 walks … Also led the team with nine sacrifice hits … Ranked fifth in the MEAC in walks and tied for fourth in sacrifice bunts … Tied for third for the most sacrifice hits in NSU D-I history and tied for fifth in walks … Stood 64th in the nation in sacrifice hits per game (0.21) … Carried a .376 on-base percentage, a .344 slugging percentage and a .955 fielding percentage … Bumped her average up to .275 (11-for-40) with runners in scoring position … Had six multi-hit games on the year … Had a 13-game streak of reaching base, the longest by a Spartan player on the year … Hit 3-for-4 with three RBI in a game 2 victory over Rhode Island on March 5 … In a game 2 win at UMES on April 21, batted 2-for-5 and scored three runs … Walked twice and scored three runs in a loss at Delaware State on March 25 … Also scored three runs in a game 2 victory at Howard on April 16 … Batted 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in a win at UMES on April 3 … Also had two hits in game 2 at North Carolina A&T on March 16, in game 1 against Drexel on March 22 and in game 1 at Howard on April 16 … Hit her first career home run in a game 2 loss at UMBC on April 27 … Had hits in nine games out of an 11-game stretch from March 26-April 21 … Hit 14-for-39 (.359) during that time.
 
2015 (Freshman Year): Named to the AD’s Honor Roll and the NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete team … Competed in and started 40 games on the year, all at second base … Batted .260 on the year with 11 runs, 26 hits, seven doubles, 11 RBI and seven walks … Ranked second on the team in doubles … Hit 18-for-61 (.295) with runners on base and .327 in MEAC regular season games … Had five multi-hit games on the year, including a 3-for-3 effort with a double and an RBI in game 2 against Howard on March 28 … Finished 5-for-9 with two RBI in the three-game series against the Bison … Hit 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI in a victory over Drexel on March 14 … Also drove in a pair of runs in a game 2 victory over UMES on April 3 … Went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the next game against the Hawks on April 4 … Hit 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in a game 2 win at Coppin State on April 23 … Also had two hits in games against George Washington on March 12 and Siena on March 22 … Scored two runs and hit 1-for-2 with an RBI and a double at Morgan State on April 12.
 
High School: Competed on the varsity softball team at Hickory her last three years under coaches Ryan Wieck and Shane Smith and the JV team her freshman season … Named to the All-PennSouth Conference first team as a senior in 2014 … Led Hickory to a second-place finish in the conference and to the quarterfinals of the 5A South Region Championship … Member of the runner-up Hickory team at the Southeastern District Championship her junior year in 2013 … Also advanced to the Eastern Region quarterfinals that season … Batted .349 with a .451 on-base percentage that season … Hickory finished as the district regular season champions her sophomore year in 2012 … Also led them to a second-place finish at regionals and to the state quarterfinals … Led the JV team her freshman year to the district championship with an undefeated season … Was also a champion swimmer at Hickory … Earned first-team All-PennSouth Conference, first-team All-South Regional and first-team 5A All-State honors as a senior … Member of the silver medal-winning 400 free relay team and the bronze medal-winning 200 medley relay team at the 5A state championship … Took first in both events at the South Region Championship … Led her team to a second-place finish in the conference, a third-place standing at the regional meet and a fifth-place finish at the state championship, all in her senior year … Led Hickory to second place in the Southeastern District Championship her junior year … Finished third in the backstroke at the event … Member of the first-place 200 free relay team at the Eastern Region Championship and the second-place 400 free relay team … Earned first-team all-district and first-place all-regional honors that year … Member of the Hickory team that won the Southeastern District and Eastern Region championships her sophomore year … Earned Scholar Athlete Awards and Virginia High School League Academic Excellence Awards  in both swimming and softball all four years … Won the Hickory Academic Awards for both swimming and softball as a senior for having the highest GPA on each respective team … Member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars … Earned the US President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence and the Hickory High School Award for Academic Excellence, and was a member of the Honor Roll all four years … Earned varsity letters in academics and won the Chesapeake Public Schools Scholar Athlete Award, both during her junior and senior years … Received an advanced diploma from Hickory with the Seal of Excellence in Civics Education, the Seal of Scholastic Excellence and the Seal of Academic Excellence … Ranked in the top 10 of her high school class.
 
Club: Competed for the U-18 Legends Elite Gold club team that qualified for the national championship tournament in the summer of 2013 … Batted .393 that year.
 
Personal: Full name is Seana Rose Moriarty … Born on July 17, 1996 … Daughter of Margaret and Sean Moriarty … Has two older sisters, Bryn and Alina, and one younger sister, Siobhan … Sister Alina was a member of the NSU softball team from 2012-15 … Older sister Bryn swam at Navy for three years from 2009-12 … Father Sean also graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy … Majoring in applied mathematics … Wants to pursue a career as a mathematician … Member of the NSU Honors College, Chi Alpha Sigma, the NSU Math Club, DNIMAS (Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences) and the Golden Key Honour Society … Enjoys swimming and going to the beach.
