Tamoria Holmes

Tamoria Holmes is in her first season as an assistant coach on the Norfolk State women’s basketball staff in 2016-17.

Holmes will also work with the team's backcourt. Her other responsibilities include recruiting, team travel, game preparation and overseeing the team's strength and conditioning program.

Holmes comes to NSU after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C. Last season, with Holmes on the bench, the Hawks compiled a 20-9 record, including a 13-3 mark in the CIAA. The Hawks earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional in March. In Holmes' two seasons at Chowan, the Hawks posted a 22-10 conference record.

Chowan was Holmes' first coaching stop following her successful playing career at Howard (2009-13). Holmes was a two-year captain of the Lady Bison, who advanced to the MEAC tournament championship game three times in her career. Holmes' best season came in 2011-12, when she was a first-team All-MEAC performer after leading the conference in scoring (18.3 points per game). Holmes also ranked fourth in the MEAC in steals (2.5) and sixth in free-throw percentage (77.0) that season, which culminated in Howard posting a 24-9 record (14-2 MEAC) and earning a berth in the WNIT.

Holmes, who topped the 1,000 career point mark at Howard, also earned second-team HBCU All-America honors following the 2011-12 season.

A Durham, N.C. native, Holmes earned her bachelor's degree in health science from Howard in 2013.
