Biography

2019 (Senior): Tied for the team-lead with six wins, finishing the year 6-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts) … Pitched two complete games, logging a team-high 88 innings and striking out 74 hitters … Ranked ninth in the MEAC in ERA … Named MEAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a six-hit shutout with no walks and six strikeouts against Delaware State in the teams’ first series … That marked the first of back-to-back nine-inning complete games for Mahoney, whose previous career high was 8.1 innings pitched prior to the season … Allowed four earned runs over a complete game in that next start, at Md. Eastern Shore … Fanned a career-high 11 batters over eight innings in another win over DSU in early April … Pitched into the 10th inning on Senior Day, but ultimately took a no-decision against DSU (9.0 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K) … Pitched 6.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts on the day of his graduation to earn a win in the final series at Md. Eastern Shore … Struck out nine batters and allowed just four hits and two runs over six frames in the MEAC Tournament win over Florida A&M … Named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team … Also named to the NSU AD’s Honor Roll for both semesters … Also a member of the VaSID All-State Academic Team and MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.

2018 (Junior): Served as a weekend starter in his first year with the team … Posted a 7-5 record with a 3.71 ERA in 87.1 innings spanning 17 appearances (14 starts) … Led the MEAC and ranked tied for eighth in the nation with four complete games … Tied for second in the conference in wins, was third in innings pitched and finished ninth in strikeouts (64) … Fanned seven in 4.2 innings against Villanova in his first start of the year … Pitched a season-high 8.1 innings in his next start against Iona, allowed just six hits and two earned runs (five total) … Struck out nine over 6.2 innings in a loss to Hofstra … Won three consecutive starts from March 10-24 … Picked up his first win as a Spartan with five strong innings against Lehigh, allowing one earned run and six hits … Pitched a complete game four-hitter against Delaware State, yielding only four hits and one run … Also pitched a complete game the next weekend at Maryland Eastern Shore … Gave up just four hits and two runs without walking a batter in that start … Fanned nine over six innings in another win vs. DSU in early April … Struck out nine again during a complete-game win over Coppin State later in the month … Gave up just three hits and one run over seven frames in that effort … Also pitched a complete game the following weekend vs. MDES, going seven innings and allowing just two runs while fanning four … Did not allow an earned run (two total) in seven innings of a no-decision at Jackson State … Pitched 7.1 innings over two extended relief outings in the MEAC Tournament … Got the win in the first round vs. Bethune-Cookman with three innings of relief … Struck out four in 4.1 innings vs. BCU in an elimination game loss two days later … Named NSU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for having the highest GPA of any Spartan male athlete … Named to the NSU AD’s Honor Roll for both semesters … Also a member of the VaSID All-State Academic Team.

Before NSU: Played two seasons at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md. … Logged a 5-1 record with a 4.01 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched as a sophomore in leading PGCC to district and region titles … Recorded six or more strikeouts eight times during the season, with a high of 11 in a five-inning performance against Central Virginia CC … As a freshman, was 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched … Was a two-time member of the Dean’s List.
 
High School: Lettered three years in both baseball and basketball … Was a second-team all-conference player and baseball team MVP as a senior … Was honorable mention all-conference and earned the Coaches Award his junior season.
