Antonio McClan

  • Title
    Wide Receivers Coach
Antonio McClan joins Norfolk State University as the wide receivers coach for the inaugural women’s flag football program, bringing more than 20 years of experience in coaching, athletic administration, player development, and mentorship.

McClan brings experience coaching football at multiple levels, including serving as a middle school flag football head coach, high school football assistant, semi-professional defensive coordinator, and travel football head coach. He has also served as the Director of a Junior Development Football League and as a volunteer assistant coach at Hampton University. His coaching background includes player development, game planning, practice design, recruiting, and building positive team cultures.

McClan is no stranger to Norfolk State Athletics. He previously served as a Marketing and Fan Engagement Intern with the department, assisting with game-day production, fan activities, student attendance initiatives, and corporate sponsorship efforts. He also worked as a Student-Athlete Academic and Compliance Support Intern, helping monitor academic progress and eligibility while supporting student-athlete development and NCAA rules education.

Away from the collegiate ranks, McClan has extensive experience working with young student-athletes. His background includes serving as a physical education teacher with Hampton City Schools and working in student activities with Virginia Beach Public Schools, where his responsibilities have included coordinating athletic schedules and logistics, managing facilities, supporting coaches, and enhancing fan engagement at athletic events.

McClan is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Sports Management Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He is also a Registered Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA/VIAAA and holds First Aid and CPR certifications.

With a career centered around coaching, education, and student development, McClan brings a commitment to advancing women’s sports and creating an environment where Norfolk State’s flag football student-athletes can develop both on and off the field.

I’d keep the flag football experience near the top like this since it immediately establishes his connection to the sport and makes the transition to NSU’s inaugural program feel natural.
