Courtney Knight joins Norfolk State's softball program as an assistant coach under head coach Tat Matthews, bringing more than 10 years of collegiate coaching experience.
Knight comes to Norfolk State from Agnes Scott College, where he served as head coach beginning in 2023, after joining the program as a player development specialist out of Asheville, N.C. Prior to Agnes Scott, Knight spent 2019-2021 at South Carolina State, helping the program win its first game in six years before improving to eight wins in his second season. From 2014-2019, he was an assistant at Mars Hill University, focusing on outfielders, pitchers, and hitters while coaching 10 All-SAC athletes.
Before Mars Hill, Knight coached two years at Georgia Gwinnett College, helping start the program in 2012, and began his coaching career at Truett McConnell College in 2008. In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Knight is a seasoned strength and conditioning specialist who has worked with both teams and individual athletes, and he spent time in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference office assisting the Director of Championships in 2009.
A four-year starter (2003-2006) at the University of Georgia, Knight led the Bulldogs to two regular-season SEC championships, four NCAA Regional appearances, and four top-10 national rankings. The Lithonia, Ga. native and former Columbia High School (Decatur, Ga.) standout was a two-time All-SEC selection and a three-time All-Southeast Regional pick. The outfielder posted a career batting average of .344 with a .992 fielding percentage.
Knight earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia in 2007 and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
