Josh Livingston begins his first year as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Norfolk State University.

Prior to Norfolk State, Livingston was at Emory & Henry College (EHC) as an Assistant Strength Coach where he directly oversaw of the development and implementation of annual, comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for the men’s and women’s soccer programs, as well as the men’s and women’s wrestling programs. Other responsibilities at EHC included assisting in the program implementation for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as the football program.

Before EHC, Livingston spent six months at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) where he assisted with the implementation of strength and conditioning programs for both men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the football team.

At UMD, Livingston was also directly responsible for overseeing all aspects of strength and conditioning for the baseball and softball teams, which included all programming and implementation responsibilities as well as meeting with potential student-athletes during on-campus visits. Aside from assisting in all day-to-day operations that occurred in the weight room at UMD, Livingston was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with all members that are directly and indirectly involved in the success of the programs that I work with. This included working closely with the Sports Medicine staff as we help to transition injured athletes, as well as those affected by Covid-19 protocols, safely back into a normal routine with the team.

Before arriving at UMD, Livingston spent three years at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) where he was initially hired as an intern and was responsible for assisting in the implementation of the men’s and women’s basketball off-season summer programs as well as assisting in all other daily operations within the Sports Performance Department. Livingston was hired as a graduate assistant at UMKC where he directly oversaw all aspects of sports performance for the women’s volleyball team and men’s soccer team as well as assisted in the implementation of strength programs for the other ten sports programs.

Livingston’s time as a GA was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic and he was hired back on by UMKC as the Director of Sports Performance for women’s basketball where he directly oversaw all aspects of strength and conditioning.

Prior to arriving at UMKC, Livingston worked as an intern on the first strength and conditioning staff under head coach Dan Mullen as he and his staff made the transition from Mississippi State to the University of Florida (UF).

This was a significant and unique experience in Livingston’s coaching career because he was able to be a part of the implementation of the new culture and expectations set forth by coach Mullen and his staff in an already well-known program. This was accomplished by creating a transparent competitive off-season program which encompassed all aspects of the student-athletes' success on campus and was implemented by the strength and conditioning staff. Although this staff is no longer at UF, this was still a significant experience in my career.

Prior to Florida, Livingston completed an internship at the University of Central Missouri where he assisted the Strength and Conditioning staff with the implementation of off-season programs for football, baseball, volleyball, and men’s basketball as well as assisted in all day-to-day operations with the football strength staff.
