NORFOLK, Va. – Brian Moore Jr. posted a career-high 26 points in a clinical performance on Wednesday night, leading the Norfolk State men's basketball team to a 104-59 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg at Echols Hall.
Moore made 9-of-10 shot attempts against the Dragons, going a perfect 6-of-6 from behind the arc. He became just the second player in program history to shoot 100 percent from behind the arc in a game on six or more attempts.
Norfolk State (2-0) hit 15 3-pointers on Wednesday, shooting 53.6 percent from behind the arc. The barrage marked the Spartans' most 3-pointers in a game since making 15 against Delaware State on Jan. 30, 2021.
The Spartans started slow, allowing Virginia Lynchburg to acquire a quick 6-0 lead.
Christian Ings got NSU on the board with a 3-pointer, before Moore knocked down another from deep to tie the game 6-6.
Moore connected from behind the arc again to give Norfolk State its first lead of the night moments later. The 3-point bombardment continued, as
Dramane Camara drained a long ball followed by an and-one layup soon after.
Kuluel Mading got on the stat sheet with a score in the paint moments before Ings knocked down his second 3-pointer of the day. Both Mading and Ings added baskets in the next minute, as the Spartans' lead quickly reached double digits.
Terrance Jones found Mading for an alley-oop late in the first half, bringing some energy to the building.
Jaylani Darden drove to the basket and finished at the rim, sending NSU to the break with a 49-28 advantage.
Mading reached double figures on a mid-range jumper early in the second half, before Moore wowed the crowd with a strong take to the cup over a taller defender. The play set up a purely dominant stretch from Moore, who knocked down three 3-pointers and a pull up jumper in the next seven minutes.
Moore kept the hot streak going, splashing two more shots from behind the arc before subbing out of the game for a few minutes. Jones maintained the momentum from there, hitting a 3-pointer out of the VUL timeout.
Reentering for the closing window, Moore logged one more basket on a steal-and-dunk sequence. He finished the night with a solid pass, finding freshman
Melo Baines for a score with a foul.
