NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University began work within the last week on a $22,000-plus renovation of its weight room located in Gill Gymnasium.
The funds were contributed by more than a dozen alumni associations, alumni and supporters. The project adds approximately 20 feet in length and 33 feet in width onto the original room. In addition, the money will buy new power racks, platforms, bars, benches, weight, and more.
“I’m quite pleased with the success we had in attaining the funds,” NSU athletics director Marty Miller said. “It’s going to help our student-athletes become more competitive. I think this is just the beginning of the type of cooperation we’re getting from our fans.”
The renovation is scheduled to be completed July 5.
“This was one of the first projects we wanted to undertake,” said NSU football coach Pete Adrian, who helped raise the funds along with many others. “We’re going to have a very nice-looking, much safer environment where all the athletes at Norfolk State can work. The community responded to us, so that’s a great indication of their commitment to the program.”
