WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — North Carolina Central defeated NSU 30-24, 30-27, 30-25 in a 3-0 victory in the opening round of the 7th Annual Winston-Salem State Lady Rams' Volleyball Invitational on Friday afternoon at the C. E. Gaines Center.
The Spartans came close to winning each game of the match, but could not get over the hump to take the win.
The Eagles (8-9) were led by Nadia Hayes who had 10 kills and hit .333 for the match. Ashley Shade had a match-high 42 assists with nine digs and two service aces.
For NSU (2-13),
Shardonay Blueford (Chesapeake, Va.) continued her solid play by recording a team-high 10 kills.
Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) had 25 assists, 10 digs, and one ace.
Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.) and
Abaina Farrell (Charlotte Amalie, U.S.V.I.) had 10 and 14 digs, respectively.
The Spartans return to action at 9 a.m. on Saturday when they take on the Tigers of Savannah State.
