NSU Women Lose 3rd Straight, Fall 87-54 to Morgan State

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game on Monday night with a 87-54 loss to Morgan State at Echols Hall.

Corin Adams led Morgan State (8-6, 2-1 MEAC) with a game-high 27 points, six rebounds, and four assists. She was 8-of-13 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range, and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Bears led the entire game and had a 39-21 advantage heading into halftime. They opened the second half on a 30-11 run to go up 69-32 after a jumper by Brittany Dodson with 9:17 left in the game.

Aaries Reed pushed the lead to 39, 86-47, with a jumper with 2:08 left, but the Spartans (2-10, 0-3) scored seven points in the final minutes to end the scoring at 87-54.

For Morgan State, Britney Griffin had 16 points, while Dodson had 13 and Jasmine Sellers had 12. Tamara Rogers forced a game-high seven steals.

The Lady Bears got to the free-throw line 35 times, connecting on 22 shots. There was a total of 51 fouls in the game, 30 in the second half alone, and a combined 59 turnovers, with NSU committing 37.

Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) led NSU with 11 points despite fouling out with 2:40 left in the game. Genor Dalton (Martinsville, Va.) tied her career-highs of 10 points and three rebounds and Tiffany Gadsden (Columbia, S.C.) recorded game-highs of 13 rebounds and four blocks.

The Spartans travel to Dover, Del. to take on Delaware State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
