NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State volleyball team earned the fourth seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference southern division and will take part in the conference tournament for the first the second consecutive year. The 2008 MEAC Tournament runs from Friday, Nov. 14 to Sunday, Nov. 16 and will be held at Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University. Matches begin at noon each day.
NSU (10-22, 3-5 MEAC) will take on northern division top seed Maryland Eastern Shore (23-8, 10-0) at noon on Friday, Nov. 14. The Spartans fell 3-0 to the Lady Hawks in the first round of last year's tournament.
Florida A&M earned the top seed in the southern division and South Carolina State took the second seed. Howard, Delaware State and Hampton wrapped up the second through fourth seeds in the northern division.
For the second straight year, the Spartans tied with Bethune-Cookman for third place in the southern division, but the Lady Wildcats won the tiebreaker over NSU based on their record against the highest ranked teams in the southern division conference standings. Both teams were 0-2 against Florida A&M. B-CU split with SCSU, while NSU was 0-2 against the Lady Bulldogs.
