Spartans Drop 2 at N.C. State Tournament

— The Norfolk State volleyball team dropped its final two games of the Hilton/RTP N.C. State Classic, falling 3-0 to UNC Asheville on Friday afternoon and 3-0 to William & Mary on Saturday morning at Reynolds Coliseum. UNCA (4-4) won 25-17, 25-13, 25-15, while W&M (6-3) won 25-16, 25-17, 25-12.

Against UNCA, Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.) led NSU (2-9) with nine kills and nine digs. Jourdan Ellison (Houston, Tex.) had nine digs and Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) had a season-high 12 assists.

Kelsey Benorden hit .278 with 12 kills and nine digs for UNCA. Raquel Miotto had a match-high 13 digs and Kaitlyn McDaniel had 12 assists and six digs.

In the match against W&M, Breanna Allums (Channelview, Tex.) tallied six kills, six digs and two assists en route to being named to the all-tournament team. In three matches, she recorded 17 kills, 18 digs and five assists. Ellison had a match-high 20 digs.

Molly Bohman and Lauren Powell had nine kills apiece and Kim Mount had 17 assists for W&M.

The Spartans return to Joseph Echols Hall on Tuesday to take on Maryland Eastern Shore in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
