Spartan Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Charlotte

—Kaitlin Knight and Kat Hicks recorded 11 kills each to lead the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team past Norfolk State 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) at the Comfort Suites 49er Tournament at Halton Arena Saturday afternoon. The Spartans, who fell to 1-5 with the loss, play Howard at 4:30 p.m.
 
NSU started out on a 4-1 run to begin set one, but Charlotte scored seven unanswered points and never looked back. Knight put down five kills in the opening frame, while Carly Romberg had eight of her 21 digs in the first set.
 
The second set was back and forth until at 11-all when the Niners had a pair of three-point runs to extend a lead to 19-12. The Niners hit for a .448 attack percentage as a team in that period, holding Norfolk State to a -.033 percentage in that set.
 
Charlotte never trailed in a much closer third set, but with nine kills and seven attack errors, the Spartans hit just .065 and could not stop the Niner offense.
 
Breanna Allums (Channelview, Tex.) led NSU with six kills and 10 digs, while Nicole Kessner (Blacksburg, Va.) had 12 assists.

Courtney Cowles had 28 assists and Abbie Rees recorded four service aces for the Niners.
