Spartan Women Travel to S.C. State, Winston-Salem State

Freshman Guard Whitney Long and the Spartans Travel to S.C. State and Winston-Salem This Weekend

Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's basketball team hits the road this weekend for contests at South Carolina State (3-12, 0-4 MEAC) and at Winston-Salem State (0-15). The Spartans (0-14) take on the Lady Bulldogs at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the Lady Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

NSU dropped two more MEAC contests when it fell 70-64 to Delaware State on last Saturday and 88-76 to Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday.  Freshman guard and reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) scored a career-high 26 points against UMES, but still could not get the Spartans their much-anticipated first win of the season.

Through 14 games, NSU is averaging 53.0 points and 33.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 32.8 (274-of-835) percent from the field. Evans leads the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and rebounding (4.1 rpg).

Both games can be heard live on WNSB Hot 91.1 FM in Hampton Roads. Ross Gordon will have the call on the NSU Sports Network.
