HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomores Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.) and Tyrell Moon (Philadelphia, Pa.) each ran a personal-best and earned top-four finishes in the 400 meters, and Trayman Hill (Greensville County, Va.) finished third in the 200 meters as the Spartan men's track team wrapped up its weekend at the Hampton Indoor Invitational.
Speller, a first-year sophomore, ran a PR of 49.04 seconds to finish second in the 400. Moon's PR of 49.66 earned him fourth place. Speller won his heat, as did Hill, who ran a 22.46 in the 200 meters.
The 4x400 team of Speller, Moon, Keith Nkrumah (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Darryl Brickhouse (Suffolk, Va.) also finished second, and first among collegiate teams, with a time of 3:20.35.
Other top-five finishes for NSU included Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) and Raphael Hall (Chesapeake, Va.) tying for third in the high jump; Brett Dodd (San Antonio, Texas) placing third in the pole vault; Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) and Vincent Rono (Bomet, Kenya) placing third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000 meters; and Theo Duncan (Ashland, Va.) finishing fifth in the shot put.
The Spartans return to the track next weekend at the Penn State National Invitational.
