Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's basketball team host the Tribe of William & Mary in the final home game of the year at 6 p.m. at Echols Hall.

NSU (2-5) earned its second win of the season on Tuesday with a 57-45 victory at Savannah State. The Spartans were carried by sophomore guard Whitney Long's (Raleigh, N.C.) 30-point performance. Long was 9-for-15 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

On the season, Long is leading the Spartans in scoring with 14.0 points per game. The team's top rebounders are sophomore guard Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) and junior forward Danelle Tate  (Stafford, Va.), who are both grabbing 4.3 boards per game.

W&M (4-3) is coming off a 60-47 loss to Richmond on Dec. 3. Taysha Pye led the Tribe with 18 points and added five rebounds. Tiffany Benson just missed a double-double by recording 10 points and eight rebounds.

W&M leads the series with NSU 8-7. Last season the Tribe routed the Spartans 98-38 at Kaplan Arena. The 60-point margin was the largest allowed by a Spartan team since a 95-35 loss to Old Dominion on Feb. 19, 1980. The last time the Tribe played at Echols Hall, they won 73-58 on Dec. 21, 2006.
