NSU Women Take on N.C. A&T in Home Opener

Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's team opens the 2009-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season with a 4 p.m. matchup against North Carolina A&T on Saturday at Echols Hall.

The Spartans (1-4) dropped two games in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic, falling 55-53 to host UAB and 70-33 to Samford last weekend. Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) and Whitney Long (Raleigh, N.C.) are leading the Spartans in scoring with 12.0 and 11.0 points per game, respectively. Evans is grabbing a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game.

NSU leads the all-time series with North Carolina A&T 13-11. The Lady Aggies have won the last six meetings, however, with their last win, a 97-65 victory, coming at Echols Hall on March 5, 2009. The last time the Spartans beat A&T was on Feb. 26, 2006 when they won 59-57 in Greensboro.
