Tournament Notes

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The third-seeded Norfolk State men's basketball team opens play in the 2009 MEAC Basketball Tournament on Thursday against No. 6 Bethune-Cookman. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Spartans (11-17) won their final three games of the regular season to finish in a four-way tie for third place. But NSU won a multiple-team tie-breaker to earn the third seed. BCU advanced with a 52-47 win over No. 11 Maryland Eastern Shore in Wednesday's first round. The Wildcats beat NSU 64-57 on Feb. 7 in the teams' only regular-season matchup.
