ETTRICK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over Virginia State on Saturday in their season finale.

NSU cruised through the match easily winning the doubles point and taking all the singles matches in straight sets. Stepanka Velebova (Tachov, Czech Republic) and Lerissa Morris (Kingstown, SVG) won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) and Chenge Tsapayi (Harare, Zimbabwe) recorded an 8-3 win at No. 2. At  No. 3 doubles, Brittany Foster (Norfolk, Va.) and Ashlee Daugherty (Las Vegas, Nev.) won 8-3.

One highlight of the day was when Foster beat her younger sister Ashley Foster 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. It was the first time the two have played each other since Brittany' senior year (2006) at Granby High School.

The Spartans finished the season at 4-6 overall and 0-4 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. They failed to qualify for the MEAC Tournament as only the top four teams in the southern division advance to the tournament. NSU finished fifth of the five southern teams.
