Spartans Return to Road, Visit WSSU

Rob Hampton scored 21 points against Howard on Monday.

Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. - The Spartans (3-13) step outside of conference play to take on the Winston-Salem State Rams this Saturday at the C.E. Gaines Center. It is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Neither game will count in the conference standings, as WSSU is not eligible for the MEAC title.

NSU had its two-game winning streak broken in an 82-77 loss to Howard on Monday night. The Rams, who are in their final year as a provisional Division I member before returning to the Division II CIAA next year, are 5-10 on the season after an 84-65 loss to Morgan State on Monday. That loss snapped a two-game win streak that included wins over MEAC teams Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.

Ross Gordon and Chris Park will call the action on WNSB 91.1 FM. WNSB's live audio link is available through the NSU web site at www.nsuspartans.com. Live stats will be available at www.wssurams.com.

Norfolk State holds a 44-18 all-time series edge with the Rams, with most of those meetings coming while the teams were rivals in the CIAA. WSSU leads the series 3-2 since beginning its transition to Division I in 2006-07. The teams split their meetings last season, with each winning on the other's home floor. The Spartans earned a 69-51 win at WSSU on Jan. 26 in the last meeting in Winston-Salem. WSSU gained some revenge with a 68-64 victory in Norfolk on Feb. 23.
